Weekends
:
The weekends
are devoted to exploring the wonders of Maine and
the magical 3,700 miles of coast line (You have to
come back for a few years to see it all)
Our goal is that every camper who comes to Maine should
do all the following: climb a mountain, go on a river,
see the coast, eat a lobster ( or some Maine Fare
that is a suitable substitute), play as many golf
courses as possible, go whitewater rafting, hear a
loon, start a camp fire, eat smores, and see an eagle
soaring over one of the 4,000 islands off the coast
of Maine.
Trips
include:
Bar Harbor (4 weekers only)
Whitewater Rafting
Whale Watching (4 weekers only)
Mountain Climbing
Rock Climbing (4 weekers only)
Lobster Feast and going to the Coast Camping Outings
On weekends
extra instruction and limited play is available for
those who absolutely refuse to leave camp (not hard
to imagine when you see all that is here). Golf play
in the afternoon for those advanced golfers who do
not go on any trips and who insist that trying for
a Birdie is more important than seeing an Eagle soaring
over Mt. Desert Island
or
choose
Relaxing-
hanging, chilling, and basically taking it easy back
at camp as a much needed break from
the fast paced program.
Certifications
Achievement Books:
our own
5 achievement levels that require passing tests of
skill, knowledge,
and accomplishments in each level before moving on
to the next.
Every
other FRIDAY Tournaments
Campers play an all camp tournament as a culmination
to that session or section of our program.
Hot News! There
is limited space for Parents to play with their child
in the golf tournament,
if your child is enrolled in our combination program
for both golf and tennis. There is an extra fee ($150)
and 1 month reservation notice is required. Based
on availability.
Afterwards we have a Bar-b-que at the camp
Combination
Tennis and Golf Program
(Limited to 20 campers per session)
SERVE
& TURF
Combine
The Maine TENNIS & The Maine GOLF Academies....
....for
Campers who want to split their summer session's focus
on instruction in both Golf and Tennis.
Each camper
will be given a schedule when they arrive at camp
devoting half their time to Tennis and half to Golf.
They will either be scheduled to take one week of
tennis instruction and play, then one week of golf
instruction and play; or vice versa, one week of Golf
and then one week of Tennis. The Directors of Instruction
will arrange the best schedule for all concerned.
(See our Maine Tennis Academy website: www.tenniscamp.org
for more details on the the Tennis Program.)
The Serve
and Turf Combination Program is limited by spaces
available, 20 campers per session. Campers receive
3 hours of the highest level of instruction during
our regular morning training periods and top quality
play every afternoon. The schedule of activities and
events are the same as the single focus session of
either golf or tennis with Serve and Turf campers
participating in a full week of golf instruction and
course play and a full week of tennis instruction,
competition and play.
We require
campers in this program to wear uniform shirts appropriate
for each activity. Therefore, the only added expense
for this program is the uniform costs since campers
will need to have 6 collared golf shirts, 6 tennis
T shirts, one collared Tennis shirt and one wind breaker.
( Please refer to our Clothing Catalog you will receive
upon enrolling, for uniform ordering) Tennis players
need to bring their own tennis racquet and golfers
can rent clubs frrom the Maine Golf Acaemy or bring
their own.
Campers are guaranteed to have fun and enjoy the best
of both worlds!
Medical
Our wonderful Nurse lives here at camp and our fantastic
Pediatrician on-call Doctor lives only 4 minutes away.
The Mid Maine Medical Hospital is an excellent facility
only 13 minutes away. We have the most modern equipment
hospital in Maine with all the specialties and disciplines
of a major city. Medical Insurance is required, so
that when our Nurse and Doctor need to prescribe treatment
and/or medical attention it is covered by the camper1s
policy. Administering prescription medicine is done
as needed or after each meal.
Phone
Calls and Emails
Campers
are permitted to make only one phone call per week
, after the first week, and emails may be sent after
the first Thursday that the campers arrive. This policy
helps the camper better adjust to camp and begin to
establish the bond with the us here at the camp that
is so important for them, so that they can take full
advantage of all the great experiences camp life has
to offer. Parents of course can call as often as they
like to check with us on how their camper is doing.
Transportation
We encourage
parents and families to drive to camp when possible
to drop their child off and tuck them into their bunk.
This way they can see this little rustic country club
for kids and meet the other bunk mates. Plus seeing
Maine and staying few days for a vacation is about
as nice a treat as you can give yourselves.
If that is not possible or practical we are pleased
to pick up campers at the gate, with an extra charge,
as long as it is at Portland International Airport
on arriving Sundays and we are glad to take them
to the gate on departure Saturdays, both between
the hours of 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM Transportation
outside those times or from Logan International Airport
can be arranged for an extra fee.( Based on time
of day and distance from the camp.) Arrangements
must be confirmed no later than May 31st.
Escort
Service (From the departure city)
We will provide a counselor to pick up your child
at their departing airport and escort them to camp
or escort them from camp to their destination airport,
with a minimum of 5 campers from the same flight.
The extra fee is based on time of day and distance
from camp. Reservations and confirmations must be
made no later than April 30th. Subject to availability
of airline tickets and sufficient time to organzie
properly.
Paid
Registration Includes:
The above instruction, tournament play, most trips
and activities, course fees for golf, club making,
plus lodging in a supervised traditional rustic Maine
cabin, three delicious home-made meals a day, daily
snacks, transportation to and from Maine's Portland
Airport on specified days and times, a personal Maine
Tennis Academy Achievement Book as a testimony to
campers' unique experience, accomplishments and acquired
knowledge, and numerous positive memories to last
a lifetime. Medical insurance, a non refundable canteen
fee of $200 for four weeks, linens and bedding, and
special programs are not included.
